BEAUTY OF NEW YORK BLOOMS AGAIN

This quilt is my tribute to the 9/11 tragedy. I made the first block on September 10, 2001 not realizing I would be working on a New York Beauty block quilt while the most tragic news would be happening to this country. It became my solace and comfort to be working on something with so much beautiful color while not being able to turn away from all the sadness on the television. It was particularly personal because one of the passengers on the first plane to hit the tower in New York was from my tiny home town. As the enormity of this tragedy became more apparent, the quilt became my hope that things would be getting better in the months to come. And so, it was my optimism of the future that kept me working that year. There was a ceremony in Abington led by Jeffrey Coombs wife, Christie, on the first anniversary. I went home and put in the last stitches to finish the quilt. The label on the back tells the complete story.
